New Futures was the third and final exhibition in the Lansbury Micro Museum’s Neighbourhood Number Nine series, organised by the V&A.
Working with local community groups, the project team (Tom Butler, Carlotta Novella) hosted a series of workshops to draw out future aspirations for Poplar, concerns about changes to the area, and reflections on what makes up local identity. A bespoke wooden trolley was used to move between locations, acting as a containter for workshop materials and a platform for discussion and congregation. The deisgn was based on trolleys used in the local Chrisp Street Market.
Various group-specific techniques helped to draw out people’s ideas, and these were exhibited within the Micro Museum as a 3D model and simplified design proposals, alongside the original workshop materials and outputs.
The Lansbury Micro Museum is a small exhibition space within Chrisp Street Market on the Lansbury Estate in Poplar, East London, and is run by the V&A.
